My Morning Skincare Picks: Hydration, Moisture & That Healthy Glow

3 min read

As an esthetician, I'm always trying new skincare products, and keeping my skin glowing starts with maintaining hydration and protecting my moisture barrier. Lately, I've been incorporating two products into my morning routine that focus on exactly that.

My goal in the morning isn't to overwhelm my skin with active ingredients. It's to cleanse, replenish moisture, and create a healthy, dewy complexion that lasts throughout the day.

And with cooler weather approaching, hydration and moisture become even more important. Cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and indoor heating can leave our skin feeling drier, flaky, and more sensitive.

If you're using corrective ingredients at night, like exfoliating acids or tretinoin, or taking isotretinoin (Accutane), your morning routine should focus on supporting your skin barrier and replenishing moisture. These two products can help complement that routine.

Imagine washing your face in the morning and stepping away from the sink with skin that feels soft, refreshed, and comfortable instead of dry and tight.

That's exactly what I look for in a morning cleanser!

Dermathod's Moist Morning Touch Foam Cleanser creates a soft, cushiony lather that removes overnight buildup without leaving your skin feeling stripped.

Why I love the formulation:

  • 55% plant-derived moisturizing complex: Helps maintain skin comfort and hydration while cleansing.

  • Glycerin: A humectant that attracts water and helps the skin retain moisture.

  • Centella Asiatica (Cica): Known for its soothing properties, helping calm the appearance of redness.

  • Aloe Vera: Helps soften and soothe the skin.

The benefit? Your skin feels clean without that squeaky, tight sensation. It's a gentle way to start your morning while respecting your skin barrier, especially when your nighttime routine includes exfoliating or corrective ingredients.

Now for the hydration!

After cleansing, I've been trying Naturium's Barrier Bounce Bi-Phase Mist. This is the step that gives your skin that fresh, dewy-looking finish.

It's a lightweight, two-phase mist that combines water-based hydration with nourishing emollients. Give the bottle a good shake, close your eyes, and mist your face. The fine spray helps your skin feel refreshed and conditioned.

Let's talk about the ingredients:

  • Glycerin + Urea: Humectants that attract and retain water, helping skin feel hydrated and plump.

  • Squalane: Softens the skin and helps reduce moisture loss.

  • Ceramide NP: Supports the skin's protective moisture barrier.

  • Jojoba + Sunflower Seed Oils: Provide lightweight emollient moisture for a softer, smoother feel.

The benefit? Skin that looks more supple, feels less dry, and has a healthy, luminous finish. You can even refresh your skin with the mist throughout the day.

As we head into cooler weather, I especially appreciate ingredients that help replenish hydration and support the skin barrier when dryness and sensitivity become more noticeable.

My Esthetician Take: Hydration and Moisture Are Not the Same Thing

Here's something I always want my clients to understand.

Hydration is about water. Moisture is about keeping skin soft and helping prevent that water from escaping.

Your skin needs both.

That's why I like pairing a gentle, moisture-conscious cleanser with a hydrating mist that also contains barrier-supporting ingredients.

And if you're using tretinoin, retinol, exfoliating acids, or taking Accutane, supporting your skin barrier is especially important. These treatments can contribute to dryness, flaking, and sensitivity. A gentle morning routine helps maintain skin comfort while your corrective skincare does its job.

For those taking Accutane, always follow your dermatologist's skincare recommendations, as your skin may require additional protection and richer moisturizers.

These products aren't replacing my entire skincare routine. I still follow with serums, moisturizer, and sunscreen every morning.

Healthy-looking, glowing skin doesn't always require more exfoliation or stronger active ingredients. Sometimes, it starts with giving your skin the hydration and moisture it needs.
